Finding An "In"

The Scene: A group of RPers are talking about and you don’t know them. Do you just butt into their RP, or do you just pass and hope you find another group? Another scene could be that you see a known RPer and you are not sure how to approach them.

At some point, whether you LARP, tabletop or RP in MMORPGs – you’re going to have to find an “in”. An “in” is a way of getting “in” on a conversation or some RP group.

Do You Suffer From L.E.E.?

You know? Low Elf Esteem?

Do “you” suffer from Low Elf Esteem?

That feeling of shyness/fear/anxiety when playing online with folks? It’s very similar to what you may feel in everyday life, obviously mmo-flavored of course. *grin*

All joking aside, this does effect gamers that play on any kind of server. Some folks tend to be wallflowers, others pretty much recluses. To those that like to role-play but still feel awkward or downright uncomfortable in some social situations – it’s a pain.

You would think having an avatar in a mmo online game would give folks a better “shield” towards this, but it is still is a problem for some. This can be even worse for Role-players, due to trying to stay IC (in-character). Of course RP mileage may vary.

Maybe not you – but maybe for someone your game with has L.E.E.?

Let’s say you want to play an outgoing character or personality but you still for some reason get L.E.E.? Or maybe you struggle with getting into the mix? What do you do?

Tightropes

For many players on RP realms, those who role-play have to “balance” with other game activities like questing, raiding, pvp and other timesinks. Especially when you get toward Instancing levels, it can get to be a challenge to level/progress and Role-play. And don’t forget everyday life! Walking the tightrope between you and your online “life” is a feat of skill and balance as well!

Here’s some questions to ponder:
Are or do you…
feel pressured to do things by other folks constantly?
get swamped or overloaded when you log in?
miss commitments to friends either online and/or in everyday life?
lose out of other fun things that you want to do?
find it difficult to just say “No”?
feel withdrawn to friends and loved ones
outside the game?
