Degrees In Role-Playing
This is an odd thing to tackle, since there is some gray area, or fuzziness about it. Depending on the game and RP community, this is re-defined or ignored. This refers to how far RP is taken in regards to IC and OOC in game - Lite being basic to Heavy being more involved IC (In-Character) - wise. Actual RP mileage will vary.
But here’s my take on it - But these are loose definitions only. You’ll most likely cone across this as you start, so adding this can be useful as a FYI.
Light/Casual:
Casual Role-playing, playing in character in varying degees. Some OOC (out of character) communication in gameplay/groups/individuals (This will vary on situation and group) - but within the policies of the rp server. (no ooc in /say or /yell, for instance - some use of brackets for ooc info). Good regard to RP server policies and etiquette, such as names, ooc references, etc. Character development is minimal, though parts may be “fleshed” out. But for the most part, you try to act and respond as your character would in the World of Warcraft setting.
Medium/Normal:
Normal Role-playing, playing in character most, of not all of the time. Light to some OOC (out of character) communication in gameplay/groups/individuals (This will vary on situation and group) - but well within, if not strongly within the policies of the rp server. (no ooc in /say or /yell, for instance - use of brackets for ooc info). Strong regard to RP server policies and etiquette, such as names, ooc references, etc. Character development is more fleshed out overall and strongly act your “role”. You try at most, if not all times, to act and respond as your character would in the World of Warcraft setting.
Heavy/Fulltime:
Fulltime Role-playing, playing in character all of the time. Very little OOC (out of character) communication in gameplay/groups/individuals (This will depend on situation and group) - but strongly within the policies of the rp server. (no ooc in /say or /yell, for instance - use of brackets for ooc info). Stricter regard to RP server policies etiquette, such as names, ooc references, etc. Character development is detailed and soundly act your “role”. You try at all times to act and respond as your character would in the World of Warcraft setting.
Note: You should always be able to adapt yourself when playing with other players with different likings. As ooc communication is a very critical issue for some role-players you should be very considerate when using it as well as the other aspects of the policies regarding RP servers. Also, respect other’s RP gameplay as best as possible.
