How do I find a guild?
If I do find a guild, what next?

Most likely from day one you get whispers and blind invites to <X> guild or guilds over time. Pain in the tail, isn’t it? *grin* My best advice is to shop around before entering a guild. Finding one can be hard but don’t give up. Use the Guild Recruitment or perhaps the General Chat channel if your game has one. If not – don’t panic.

Most major cities may have some guilds looking for new members. It’s like a tricky buffet of mindsets and gamestyles. Another way if just ask a member or check their guild website or forums (some server forums also keep a listing or a wiki). At some point you may want to join one for gaming and/or rp reasons. This may be of help:

Ask Questions (This also applies to guild recruiters). You are trying them out as much as they are trying out you. Think of it as an interview.

Be fair in what you want. Also – be honest with your “needs”. Hopefully both will “click” and you will find a good group. Here’s some IC/OOC things to think about and/or ask if you are thinking about joining a guild:

How many members do you have?
How long have you been active?
Do you have guild meetings?
What are you looking for in it’s members?
If so how often?
How much role-playing do you all do?
Is the Guild Chat Channel IC or OCC or a separate RP Channel?
Do you have a website or forums?
Do you help each other out on instances and related quests?
Can I get gear crafted as well?
Can I bring alts in also?
How much raiding /pvp is done?
Do you have RP events or gatherings?
Do you Role-play with other group or guilds?

Notes/Tips:
If they don’t really want to take the time to answer or at least address the question – that reflects heavily on their treatment of you later on. However, give them time to answer you and be patient.

Most good guilds will help lowbies out as they progress – but do not take advantage of it.

Never beg for gear, help or other things that you can attempt and do for yourself first. For difficult quests, ask if you cannot find a group on your own or request help on the guild forums or chat.

Always be thankful to those that take time to help you and be prepared to also help later on.

Do not assume everyone can drop everything they are doing and run to you. Just like you, they are playing and may not have the time free at that moment.

Be patient and be cool of someone cannot help you.

Help your guild is you can on things, it only helps the guild and makes for a better group of people. One of the best ways to help your guild is to be a good example of that < > that is above your head. Your actions do reflect on how your guild is seen by others, and potential good members.

Encourage and inspire those in your guild. Encourage RP as well.

Keep your promises and commitments . If you cannot, info the person(s), so they have a head’s up.

Guild-Hopping is bad form. If there is a conflict, work out conflicts through mature channels and don’t drop anchor without letting people know. Leave only if there is no other course of action.

This is not a complete set of questions or tips, since each guild and person is different. But these are good things to think about while looking.
