RP Addons List (World of Warcraft)

We covered adding Addons earlier, now here are some ones focused on Role-Playing. This is not a complete list but it will give you an idea of what is out there. I have not tried all of these so I have a fluffy disclaimer: Try and use at your own risk. Most coders are really trying to help, and do great work. Just be aware that these Addons will need updating after certain patches and that one or more may not play well with each other. If that is understandable - let’s roll!

Note: Outdated Addons
While some addons are outdated, they may still work. Remember to check the write-up for the addon and see if it’s had major issues. Sometimes older addons get picked up by new authors, but use caution.

As always, use at your own risk.

Character Description Addons:
What these Addons do is amazing. They modify the tooltips in World of Warcraft to show additional information about your character for role-playing purposes. These provide a description of the character, a selection of role-playing “flags” to show what type of role-player you are or if you are out of character, enhanced naming features and UI modifications to enhance RP.

Example: (name prefix) Character Name (name suffix)
Note: The only downside is that others must be running the same or compatible Addon to view. Check these out and see which works for you or your guild.

flagRSP (outdated)
flagRSP2
ImmersionRP
(picked up as IRP-Continued)
MyRoleplay

Here’s an example of the Naming features. The character name is Ravenswood. We have added a first name using flagRSP2. Here’s the result:

New name from flagRSP2.

Language Addons
These types of Addons add a bit more flavor to your speech, from adding accents/dialects to different languages altogether. Some can really help with speaking in character if you have trouble typing the words yourself in an accent. Some have richer features, like filters and added UI modifications.

Lore (outdated)
Eloquence (outdated)
Dwarvenizer / Trollizer (outdated)
Tongues

Role-Play “Enhancement” Addons
What these types of Addon do is automate speech or emotes in certain events or at random. No, you don’t need these to RP - but they do help with some tasks that may be daunting like dialects and such. On one level these can be nice tools, on the other hand it can be a spamming nightmare. My suggestion it so tweak the settings to not occur very often, unless you like staring at a wall of text in your Chat window. *grin* Know when to shut these down and/or be very careful on raiding or in other areas. Also note that some text replacements do not work as intended.

You can test them in a remote part of a zone or in an instance, tweaking to fit your RP style and making sure you’re not spamming the channels every ten seconds with an emote. (much less embarrassing) *grin* All in all - use with responsibility and don’t make them a crutch in your role-playing.

Roleplaying Helper (outdated)

Support Addons
Support Addons are various Addons that help during the game. The ones I mention here include taking notes and jotting things for later use and for wardrobe switching.

TinyPad - Notes Addon (outdated)
NotesUNeed - Notes Addon
ItemRack - Outfit/gear Switcher
Outfitter (requires Ace/Ace2) - Outfit/gear Switcher (outdated)
GearChanger - Outfit/gear Switcher
ImprovedCamera - Modifies the in-game camera range
CameraPlus
- Modifies the in-game camera range
HoloFriends - Enhanced Friends List (outdated)
ChatCursors - Adds typing flexibility
AdSpace - Helps from getting ripped off at the AH on recipes.

Last Thoughts (for now)
Though any of these can help with the game -
Do you need -all- of these?

No, not really - but some are a real boon to role-playing. However, these are no substitute for knowing the basics and applying them in the “field”. Read up on each that interest you and use what works. Check for updates regularly and test before making them a staple in your Addons folder.

Remember that some talented people made these and perhaps making a donation can help them along getting updates and new additions done.

A few thoughts:
~ImmersionRP has been updated to IRP-Continued, and is hosted on http://www.curse.com It also includes a Social RP list, that lets you mark people as friends, foes, etc.

~ItemRack is not being developed any longer, but there is also another nice one: ClosetGnome, that isn’t hard to set up and manage. It is also by Ace (www.wowace.com)

~I -think- Lore is out of development too, unless someone’s picked it back up, correct me if I’m wrong.

~Battlecry is the best of the “call out” RP helper mods I’ve seen. The BC Editor is clean, and simple overall.

I’ll work on a revised list soon. I’ll also check on Lore also. Thanks!
