WoW RaceNotes: Dwarves
Section: WoW Race Notes | 4 Comments »

The WoW RaceNotes Series are for helping roleplayers learn more about the player races to help create a backstory and roleplay characters in World of Warcraft.
Use these as tools and guides for information. Updates will happen as new information/lore is available to add “life” to your characters.
Introduction: The stoic dwarves of Ironforge are an ancient race of robust humanoids who live beneath the snow-capped mountains of Khaz Modan. The Dwarves have always been fast allies with the Humans, and they revel in the prospects of battle and storytelling alike.
In past ages, the Dwarves rarely left the safety of their mountain fortresses. However, whenever the call to battle sounded, they rose up to defend their friends and allies with unmatched courage and valor.
Due to a recent discovery that uncovered fragments of their ancient origins, the Dwarves have undergone a remarkable transformation. The discovery convinced the Dwarves that the mighty Titans created them from stone when the world was young. They feel that their destiny is now to search the world over for more signs and proof of their enchanted heritage and to rediscover the Titans’ hidden legacies.
To this end, the Dwarves have sent out their Prospectors to all ends of the world in the hopes of discovering new insight into their shrouded past. These journeys led to Dwarven excavation sites all over the known world, some of which serve as outposts and some of which serve as potential hunting grounds for enemies of the Dwarven race.

Is there any evidence of dwarves other than paladins following the Holy Light? I don’t mean mentions in the Warcraft RPG book, but actual characters mentioning their piety.
It’s not really a faith that seems to offer anything from a dwarvish point of view, in contrast to the (new) faith in the Titans, which really affirms a lot of things in dwarvish culture have a divine origin, which really is the most pleasing type of religion, culturally: “You’ve already been living right, and in accordance with divine order. Have another beer!”
It’s also worth mentioning that trolls and orcs are a bigger deal to dwarves than the rest of the Horde; Frostmane trolls in particular have been a problem for the dwarves forever (and really, aren’t all trolls the same to most dwarves) and the Dragonmaw Orcs and several other tribes came the closest to conquering Khaz Modan of any race in history, and that’s not something most dwarves are likely to forget or forgive.
And as people who go through the full series of Blackrock Depths quests know, there are political shakeups in the future for at least two of the dwarf nations. What they’ll be, though, is anybody’s guess.
And while I’m here, allow me to plug the in-character adventures at Flinthammer Hall: http://www.flinthammer.org/
For Khaz Modan!
It would seem plausible that some dwarves, especially ones that know of the Silver Hand and those that know dwarven paladins may have been influenced by the Light in some way.
Light worshipping dwarves would sort of be a minority, but it just depends on the individual character and how your backstory works/fits within the lore as it is.
It’s always a possibility, just as some dwarves in game (npcs like the Dark Iron Dwarves, for example) follow darker roads. (Cults and related, Shadow and even more Elemental forces, like Ragnaros)
